Goodwill Gaming: WoW Players Donate $2.3 Million to Super storm Sandy Victims

 

Blizzard has rounded up a hefty sum of donations to Super storm Sandy victims, thanks to its loyal World of Warcraft players. WoW fanatics have contributed more than $2.3 million to the ongoing relief efforts, Mash able reported.

WoW players rallied last December after Blizzard, the company behind the eight-year-old fantasy role-playing game, announced that it would donate all adoption fees of an online pet to the American Red Cross for Sandy relief efforts.

The game maker, coincidentally named after a natural disaster itself, has leveraged the personal community within its popular game to help those affected by the storm. For $10, gamers were able to bring home a ‘Cinder Kitten’ from the pet store, to be used in pet battles. The pet adoption strategy is one that’s historically paid off big for Blizzard. After the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Blizzard introduced its first adoptable pet for charity — a Cenarion Hatching that ultimately raised $1.9 million for the disaster relief there.

Until now, American Red Cross has received more than $254 million in donations and pledges for Sandy, the organization said in an online statement. Sandy, the second-costliest super storm in U.S. history, hit the East Coast in October. The total tab comes to at least $62 billion in damages, according to the Associated Press.

Two new instances: storm "Tiamat's Fortress" and fight your way through to "Tiamat's Hideout". There you will face the Balaur ruler and her followers in the final battle. Do you have enough courage? With a bit of luck you will be rewarded for your victory with a set from the "Myth" category.

Latest Diablo 3 patch offers dueling without all the pain

     Blizzard is hard at work on patch 1.0.7 for Diablo 3 and revealed a preview of the changes it will include, the most notable of which is a due
ling feature. In December Blizzard said it would work on a dueling system, though there was no word on how it would work. Today's preview solves some of that mystery: Dueling will be a safe environment for players to kick the crud out of each other, devoid of "the potential for griefing as it existed in Diablo 2," Blizzard writes.

     Players who wish to duel must speak with Nek the Brawler at the inn in New Tristram, who will transport the party to the Scorched Chapel, a new area designed specifically for dueling. Scorched Chapel has four areas, the church, graveyard, river and lake, and supports up to four players in free-for-all battles. Dueling doesn't offer any rewards aside from bragging rights, and death in the dueling area isn't permanent, even for Hardcore players.  buy diablo gold cheap
